Year 9 discuss The Knife of Never Letting Go

My year 9 boys are working on Ness’s Knife of Never Letting Go. Here they discuss the text at the mid-point of study. Please feel free to use the sound files for critique of Speaking and Listening skills…

NOTE these are broadly off the cuff discussions – preparation was minimal.

The Knife of Never Letting Go: Guide and activities

A repeat post for my guide and activities for this wonderful text.  I am so looking forward to engaging with this again, and bothering @Patrick_Ness on Twitter when my students have questions or present something great.

Reading and study guide to THE KNIFE OF NEVER LETTING GO.

a reading guide to The Knife of never letting go

I have prepared a reading guide to Ness’ novel the knife of never letting go. It is aimed at students and teachers alike and gives a brief summary of each of the chapters together with some comment on key themes and narrative techniques. It is not meant to provide lesson plans and othe rteaching ideas as such, but should assist in the planning process.

A screencast to introduce the novel can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGxYyOicjiQ

I will post teaching ideas and snapshots of the work that my Year 9 produce as the term unfolds.

screencasts to stimulate and prepare for learning

I am preparing to teach two texts over the next few months – Reginald Rose’s 12 Angry Men and Patrick Ness’ The Knife of Never Letting Go. The two screencasts here are designed as stimuli for the learning process and should make it easier for the students to access the texts quickly. Not really a flipped classroom, but certainly a homework task designed to save time in exposition in the classroom. The links to the videos will take you to the SGS english departmetn you tube page.

I hope you find these useful.
